I am the most impatient person you will ever meet. I have become a 'Sydney Sider" and been settled here in Sydney since end of February and am getting stir crazy. A big reason of why I am "stuck here" is because I needed to save some cash after galavanting around for the three months, and at one point my bank account read -11 $ and my next payday was not for three days. I was eating cans of tuna for lunch for those 3 days. Finally I have dug myself out of the hole I was in and it is time for me to move south for winter down to Melbourne.
So like I always do let me catch you all up on what I have been doing and where I have been. When I returned from Tasmania I moved into a flat in Kingsford, with Alex who I met in Stanthrope and traveled with in Indonesia, his mate Ryan who I also know from my farming adventures, and another one of their mates form home Dan. I call ourselves the Kings of Kingsford. Kingsford is about a 20 minute bus ride to the city and is a nice quite suburb full of UNSW students, and Asian immigrants. On the main strip it is all Asian restaurants and supermarkets. Sticking out amongst little Asia is a bar called The Regent full of bouncers that I do not get along with, because apparently standing at the bar waiting for your friend to come out of the bathroom is a crime and your "too drunk" to be in here after drinking a beer and a half when your not even feeling the least bit tipsy.
My daily routine as a King starts around 6 am where I force myself out of bed to go to work, work a full day, be home around six or seven, eat some dinner, have a Little Creatures beer, Facebook, have a nice chat with some of my roommates, and then finally go to bed. I do not like routines because I get bored quickly and get ants in my pants. If any of you need a stage built or have a marquee to put up call me because for work I build and tear down these structures for events for a whopping 15$ an hour. My boss Scotty is quite the character. He is a 38 year old alcoholic who stops at the bottle shop every night on our way home from work. Every morning when I get in the work van the first thing I hear from him is "oh Kris I got so fucked last night mate" or "oh Kris I did a bad thing last night" as he sips a red bull and somehow makes it through the day, everyday.
To break the routine of going to work everyday and to get out of Sydney my house mates and one of our friends from Indonesia went to Port Stephens for my birthday adventure weekend. By far one of my favorite places in Australia so far. The first day I woke up muscles sore from putting up tents and walked outside to see our hostels pet kangaroo Josephine warming up in the morning sun. After giving it some pets I wake up my roommates and try to go surf. After failing to find a place to rent boards we decide to go the sand dunes. At the start of the sand dunes is Stockton Beach, where we sat on the beach watching perfect barreling waves break, and people surfing with dolphins while a single tear drop was rolling down my cheek because I was sitting high n dry board-less. Stockton Beach is great because it has three different environments that all meet up together. So the rainforest meets the desert sand dunes that meets the ocean.
We decided to take a 4x4 tour to Tin City. Tin City is fascinating because it is a small community of squatters that literally live in tin beach shacks that were built during World War II. At a time there were over 70 structures now there only stands 11. The squatters who live in these huts are only allowed to repair holes in the tin and if by some natural cause the structure is destroyed they are not allowed to rebuild it. So in 20 years there may not be a Tin City. After awkwardly walking through someones backyard with a tour group I got reacquainted with sand boarding. Feeling full of energy we also did a small hike where we could view all of Port Stephens. The next day we did some more hiking and hopped on a bus back to my daily routine life of building tents and stages.
To break the rut I hopped on a plane and am now rebuilding myself in Melbourne playing with penguins and freezing my ass off. Till next time ya' all.
